Y.E.S. students help with flood relief

May 182010

On Monday, May 3rd and the days that followed the devastating flood damage to the Richland Creek area in West Nashville, Youth Encouragement Services students and adults were on the scene helping families in any way they could from removing items from the wreckage to giving out water and pizza. Center Director David Estes, with students and volunteers from the St. Luke’s Y.E.S. Center, helped salvage items from the flooded area in West Nashville.  Many of the homes were only blocks from the Y.E.S. Center, which has been used by St. Luke’s Community House and the Mayor’s office as a staging area for food, toiletries, showers, medicine and household items for the flood victims. Students from our McIver Center in South Nashville, led by Center Director Jan Andre’ Williams, brought pizzas and water to hungry families and volunteers in the West Nashville area.
