YES high school seniors share plans, dreams with Wal-Mart Regional General Manager and YES Executive Director
Continuing a relationship that began last year, Wal-Mart made a contribution today that brought college much closer within reach to two of our YES teens. Wal-Mart Regional General Manager Glen Gabardi was in town today to meet two of our high school seniors, and to present $10,000 for the Youth Encouragement Services college scholarship fund.
“When we visited YES last year, I knew this was the beginning of a long relationship,” Gabardi said. “Their commitment to being a good neighbor and giving back to the community is a perfect fit for our own philosophy of doing the same.”
High school seniors Jordan Wilson and Ricky Allen are two of our high school seniors that will benefit from this generous donation. They are the first in their families to apply to college. “I want to go to college to further my education,” Wilson said. “I’m so thankful to Wal-Mart for helping us.” Jordan Wilson is applying to Tennessee State University and Alabama A&M with plans to pursue a degree in Education.
Last year, Wal-Mart contributed funds to help YES purchase a much-needed bus to transport youth on field trips, sporting events and summer camp.
“This year’s contribution makes an enormous difference in the lives of these two young people,” said Chris Barnhill, Executive Director, YES. “It also sends a signal to all our kids that all things are possible. I am grateful to Wal-Mart for all their efforts on our behalf.” Barnhill said the contribution, when combined with other grants, should allow both students to attend a state college for four years.
Thank you Wal-Mart!
