Tennessee Titans’ Jevon Kearse partnered with Youth Encouragement Services (YES) to host a Back-to-School event for 100 of our YES kids on Sunday, August 10th.
“We are so thankful to Jevon for organizing this special Back-to-School event for the children at Youth Encouragement Services,” said Chris Barnhill, Executive Director, YES. “He is offering hope to those in need. We are proud to partner with Jevon and we look forward to his future involvement at YES.”
Kearse spent the day with the YES kids living in J.C. Napier and Tony Sudekum public housing as well as a small group from the Woodbine Community. In addition to giving away school supplies and backpacks, Kearse also organized a pizza party and free Back-to-School haircuts from local barbers. Also, through an organization called Soles 4 Souls, each child received a new pair of flip-flops.
“Jevon has always been a caring person that likes to help kids that are less fortunate,” says a close friend, Alfred Twitty. “He always stresses the importance of education while interacting with children. This event is something that he has done in the past in Florida, and we thought it would be a great idea to start it in Nashville.”
Kearse, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defender, who earned the nickname “The Freak” during his playing days at the University of Florida, has played in 111 career games. His statistics include 444 tackles, 69.5 sacks, one interception and 29 forced fumbles.
Thank you to everyone that helped organize this special event!
