‘Tis the Season

Proud mom with a new bike for her child!
*The Christmas Store is December 15th! Read below for details!
Imagine a young child waking up on Christmas morning with no presents under the tree and no food in the house to eat. That is something that most of us can’t even fathom! Without the Youth Encouragement Services Christmas Store, that’s how many of Nashville’s underprivileged children would spend their Christmas morning.
YES is beginning its preparations for the annual Christmas Store, which will take place on Saturday, December 15th at the Lindsley Avenue center. This store will provide Christmas to over 1,000 underprivileged children.
Deborah Page, a YES parent living in the Napier/Sudekum Housing Projects said, “The Christmas Store is a perfect opportunity for me to shop for my kids. If it weren’t for the Christmas Store, I wouldn’t have anything to give my kids at Christmas.”
Hundreds of mothers just like Deborah will have the opportunity to shop for their children. Each mother will select new clothing and toys for each child in their family. They will also receive a $20 Wal-Mart gift card and a large box of groceries for a complete holiday meal. This is an enormous task, so we rely on help from hundreds of volunteers each year.
We need your help in a variety of ways:
1. You can sponsor a child by taking “Angel Cards” which provide specific requests for certain YES children.
2. Churches, businesses, and schools can sponsor a food, clothing, or toy drive to help in our efforts.
3. Volunteers are needed the week before and on the day of the store to help set-up, work, and clean-up.
4. Also, cash donations are always needed. This money will help us to purchase hams for the dinners and any items that we are lacking the week of the store.
As you consider your benevolent giving this Christmas, please keep Youth Encouragement Services at the top of your list. You can help make this holiday season brighter for Nashville’s inner city children.
