Summer’s off to a good start!
June 102010
The Lindsley center started the summer off by going to Bible Camp. The camp took place June 1-5, at Camp Sycamore in Joelton, TN. This year’s camp theme was “What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do”. During the week, the children stayed in cabins, participated in many outdoor activities, went to Bible studies, and attended nightly devotions. Each day was focused around one of the following main topics: self image, having a negative attitude, being a friend, and peer pressure. The children were given activities and devotions focused around each main topic throughout the week. This year at camp, the children were split into four teams. Once placed with a team, the children participated in all activities with their team members. The teams earned points together for each activity and learned their strengths and weaknesses as individuals and as team members. Working in teams was a challenging task for many of the children, but the children realized it was the best way to get the activities and challenges completed, to earn their points. There were several new additions to camp this year which required the children to work as a team. One of those additions was a lower ropes course in which the children were given a task to complete and they had to work together to figure out the best way to do each task. Another new addition was the “Leap of Faith” which is a 30 foot tower that the children were given the opportunity to climb. After reaching the top of the tower, they made the choice to stand up, jump off, and ring the bell, taking a leap of faith. The children gave advice and cheered for each child who attempted the tower. Camp was a challenging and awesome experience for each child and a great way to get the summer off to a good start!
