Summer Fun at McIver!
July 022010
It is hard to believe that it has been a month since the first day of our summer program at the McIver Center of Youth Encouragement Services. The kids and staff have worked together to make the center a place where kids and adults alike can grow physically, academically, emotionally, and spiritually. The summer got off to a great start at Camp Sycamore, where kids were given the opportunity to challenge themselves in new ways. In the midst of nature, the children were able to take risks on the high ropes course and exercise their leadership skills on the low ropes course. The children stretched themselves spiritually through daily Bible classes and nightly devotions. This year’s camp theme was “Preparing For Your Journey.” The students explored the Parable of the Lost Son, understanding more deeply the meaning of the story and how the story can be applied to their own lives. Back at the center, children have already gone on many field trips including trips to the swimming pool, Percy Priest Lake, the bowling alley, the Nissan Plant, the Nashville Public Library, Vanderbilt University, and Lipscomb University. While at the center, children spend time exercising their bodies in group games, improving their literacy skills through a daily reading class, and growing spiritually through a daily devotional. We hope to bring the same energy and spirit we had at the beginning of the summer to the second month of our summer program, helping every child to grow to their fullest potential.
