Students help clean up Camp Sycamore

May 252010

On Saturday, May 15, 2010, 25 students from the McIver and Lindsley centers participated in a service project at the Sycamore Creek Camp site. The children love Camp Sycamore, and were excited and eager to get started once they arrived.  They were given instructions by Gary Semanchik, along with gloves, and paint brushes. They help stain the newly built playground, stack wood that was cut down from around the property to the fire circle, and help paint lines on the pavilion floor for a shuffle board game. The day was hot, but the children stayed on task and worked hard for about 3 hours (with a few breaks for water!).

We wanted them to realize that working as part of a team can improve learning and is a much needed skill in today’s workplace. To succeed at the task at hand everyone involved needed to combine their efforts. If everyone does their job well, then it increases what they can accomplish. Everyone has their own unique role, but each person’s individual role must be recognized and appreciated.

For all their hard work the children were treated to McDonald’s for lunch!
